Debbie Bean is a Health Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Rehabilitation, based within the Centre for Person Centred Research (PCR) at AUT's School of Clinical Sciences. Debbie’s research focuses on taking a health psychology, critical and cultural lens to the experience and management of chronic pain. She has research streams investigating 1) psychosocial aspects and experiences of complex regional pain syndrome, 2) innovative treatments for the prevention and management of chronic pain, including the application of virtual reality technology to pain rehabilitation and 3) culture and equity in pain experience and management. Debbie teaches postgraduate rehabilitation, is paper leader for Innovative Strategies: Engaging in Rehabilitation, and contributes to a range of other postgraduate teaching and supervision. Debbie is also a registered Health Psychologist and has extensive clinical experience assisting people, whānau and groups to manage chronic pain.
