Iris Humm
Postgraduate Student, University of Otago Wellington, NZ
Iris began her professional journey a long way from pain with a successful career in art auctioneering in London and Vienna. After relocating to New Zealand, a longstanding interest in movement and the human body led to her owning and operating a Pilates studio for over a decade. During this time, she began working with clients experiencing
persistent pain—a turning point that sparked a deep curiosity about pain science and management. Iris completed several NOI Group courses, which solidified her passion for the field and motivated her to pursue postgraduate studies in Health and Health Sciences at the University of Otago, endorsed in Pain and Pain Management. Early in her studies, she developed a particular interest in integrating pain management into primary care through pain coaching. Iris is dedicated to advancing this approach by integrating the practice in local primary care facilities, and plans to explore its potential in her master’s thesis. Her exploration of pain, alongside her studies at the Wellington School of Philosophy and Meditation and in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, provide her with a valuable combination of skills to contribute to discussions on person-centered approaches to managing persistent pain. |
