Quinn Straker
Kāi Tahu
Tēnā koutou katoa,
Ko Kāi Tahu te iwi.
Ko Kōpinga te marae.
Ko Quinn Straker tōku ingoa.
Nō Rēkohu ahau.
Quinn Straker is a fourth-year medical student at Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka ki Pōneke. She entered medicine with a commitment to improving outcomes for Māori, focusing particularly on mental health and addiction. This passion stems from the experiences that she and her whānau had within Aotearoa's broken mental health system.
Quinn aspires to be part of the shift toward kaupapa Māori-led mental health and addiction services, believing that integrating traditional Māori tikanga with the Western paradigm is an essential first step in making these services more accessible to Māori within a colonised space.
